Little Ship

‘Little Ship’ is a poem for anyone who is feeling the pull of their children growing up. It serves as a reminder that the parent/child connection runs deeper than anything the eye could ever see. 

It would be a beautiful gift for a parent of adult children or of course, a perfect addition to a home just like mine. The children are still young but time is flying by and it’s beautiful to have a reminder that growth can be positive change and does not just mean loss. 

I have written poetry since I was old enough to write. 

I have endless books and diaries filled with poems of my youth. From declarations of love to boys who did not even know my name to poems exploring dark and heavy subjects,  I always used poetry as a way to express myself and navigate the world around me. 

When I became a mother, I had more inspiration than I knew what to do with. Art and illustrations were a fabulous outlet and a wonderful way to soothe my very busy mind but the value and power of words has always moved me out an even deeper level. 

The fact that my work is received so well by so many of you humbles me deeply. The fact that you would consider hanging my work andmy words in your home, your safe space, is an honour that I honestly cannot describe.
